UTSA MBB – 9/22

Happiest of Tuesday’s, everyone! I’m finally getting to catch up on some of my edits, so you guys get two posts in less than two days. I always try and filter myself, but sometimes – I’ve got to get my work up, I have to share it! Here’s hoping you guys are feeling as productive as I have over the passed couple of days.

Today’s blog post is all about my pals on UTSA Men’s Basketball. Little by little, we’re slowly inching to the start of the season. It’s like we’ve been waiting with our breaths held in the Modica household. It’s slow and steady, but once season is upon us, it’s a whirlwind. It’s nice to be wrapped up in it, though. I’ve gotten so many sneak peeks of what these guys are capable of that I’m so very excited to see what the season holds!

These photos are from one of the earliest practices of the “season”. Which means there’s still a lot of dynamic stuff going on – ball handling, heavy duty scrimmages, and simple play running. These are the types of practices where I can really work on my craft. There are so many different things happening, it’s hard to keep up!

As you go through these, pay special attention to the tenacity these guys are putting into their sport. It’s crazy to see so many people in one place focused on the same exact thing. Either way, catch out the action below!

** Fellas, if you want these photos – reach out! I’d love to send you an actual copy instead of seeing you guys share a screenshot. **

There you have it! Keep checking back for more UTSA Men’s Basketball updates. I’ve got a couple more galleries in the works as we speak! If you’re interested in action shots for your team or athlete, contact us! We’d love to work with as many teams/athletes as possible.

We’re currently booking our Halloween/Fall themed mini sessions. I posted a few examples of the backdrop in the last post on the blog, so if you’re interested and wander what these photos might look like, click on the link here.

These Halloween/Fall themed mini sessions are taking place on October 13th and 27th between 10-2. When you book, we’ll let you know where we’re going to set up on each of the dates. Each session is thirty minutes in length and comes with all the best edits from our time together. We’re finishing off this package with a printed 5×7 of your choice! That means you’re getting pretty close to a full sessions worth of things at a discounted rate.

These sessions can be used for costume reveals, fall goodness, or simply because you like the scarecrow! We’re so excited to get these dates out to you guys, we’re not passing up an adventure with anyone! These are first come first serve, so once the date and time have been booked, I’ll cross them out and they will no longer be available. To make sure you get the date and time you’d like, we’re asking for a small deposit before the date and the rest when you come for your session!

These are the times you can choose from on either of the dates (10/13 & 10/27):

10:00, 10:30, 11:00, 11:30, 12:00, 12:30, 1:00, 1:30

Use the contact form below or send us a message to grab your time and date! If these times get filled up quickly, I may look into adding another date with more times, so be on the lookout for that!

We’re still booking our full fall sessions as well, so please don’t hesitate to reach out for those sessions, either. We’ve been loving our adventures around Cibolo Nature Center and can’t wait for the ones to come!

As always, thank you for hanging with us. We’re so very grateful for how things are going and how many people read along, comment, and book with us. It’s truly amazing!

Until the next time, friends! Keep on adventuring…

Weightlifting in Black & White

Happy Saturday, my friends! My pops & I get up early in the mornings to get a run in, and Saturday seems to be the most peaceful. I can catch up on my edits, I watch an episode or two of whatever show I’m watching, and relaxing on the couch with my puppers. When there’s nothing going on, it’s one of the best things ever! Today, I’m coming at you guys with something pretty cool.

I occasionally throw in a black and white photo to my collections, but I don’t usually do a whole gallery in it – but that’s changing today! My good friend Gabe is a beast in the weight room, so I thought doing some weightlifting stuff in black & white of him would be awesome. It doesn’t hurt that the weight room on campus is equipped with some nice stuff and good lighting. Spending the time getting these shots was totally worth it & guys – this collection is one of my favorites!

As a kinesiology nerd, it was cool to capture mechanics in all different forms on camera. Working out is both the most self-confidence inducing and unflattering thing all at once. A person can’t really hide bad form and position when it comes to this kind of stuff. As I went through them, I think that was the coolest part – catching the little intricacies & chinks in the kinetic chain.

When you go through these, a lot of the shots are the little details I thought were the most interesting. There are two types of lifts that I shot – upper & lower body. Pay special attention to muscle definition and depth of movement. I tried my hardest to catch the lift in its most purest form – & I hope it shows!

Check out some of my favorites below!

There you have it! I had a really fun time tweaking these black & white shots. They were taken in black & white – then edited to what you just got to see. I hope to do many more shoots exactly like this in the near future!

We’re currently offering 20% off all our sessions until the end of the month. It’s the best time to get pictures taken & I can’t wait to see what we can come up with together!

Our senior sessions are also $75 until the end of graduation season. I love taking these portraits, so let’s go on adventure and celebrate your achievements! A quick access contact form will be at the bottom of this post to make booking easier.

Until the next time, friends! Keep on adventuring…

UTSA – CUSA Tournament

Happy Thursday, everyone! Friday is just a few hours away – and then it’s the weekend! I’m so very stoked for the weekends these days. My sweet Joshy is home until the start of next basketball season, we’re getting to the busy season of picture taking, and – it’s the most gorgeous time of the year! We get to explore all the beautiful places that San Antonio/New Braunfels/Boerne/Austin have to offer!

These pictures took me a little longer than I would have liked for a couple reasons. To begin with, I wasn’t really ready for the season to be over. I love standing on the sidelines catching all the action as close as I possibly can get it. I love being able to get to know the guys both on and off the court, and I love the family aspect that the team creates. None of those things go away – they’re just less intense throughout the off-season. The other reason why I didn’t want to get through these pictures was because the game didn’t go nearly as we planned and it hurt just the littlest bit to get to the end and have the same result for the second time!

Regardless of all of that, I ended up getting through the images and am so stoked about it! Though they didn’t get the result they wanted, the guys played hard and looked good on film doing it. There was so much intensity throughout the first half – the guys were on fire. It was like they hadn’t played in forever and were jonesing for the chance. When they stepped on the court on the second half, though – the energy just wasn’t the same. Despite falling behind and staying that way, the basketball was sound and the guys played until the last second came and went.

As you look through these pictures, take into account how gorgeous the court lighting is! I love the rich white light and it made the pictures look so crisp and so clean. Also make sure you take into account how intense these guys seem to look.

Without further ado – UTSA’s Conference USA tournament appearance!

There you have it! Though the UTSA Basketball season is over, this isn’t the last you’ll see of UTSA Athletics. It’s baseball/softball season and I’m so very excited to start posting those beauties here, too!

We’re currently offering 15% off all of our engagement/wedding & graduation photography packages and want to make sure everyone gets their chance to book! My schedule is already really crazy, so don’t wait to book with us. The summer is the best time of the year to shoot, and I can’t wait!

And just because you guys are great, use the code AWESOME in the order form below to grab 5% off any photo session! We’re still booking family, action, and lifestyle photography sessions, so don’t wait!

Until the next time, friends! Keep on adventuring…

Warhouse Strength & Conditioning

Hi, everyone! I hope you’re stoked for the weekend, because we’re one day away. I’m stoked for this weekend, merely because the next week is Spring Break! There’s not a singular thing wrong with having a few extra days of break. I’m heading to Frisco with the UTSA Men’s Basketball team, so I’m even more excited because of it.

Last weekend, my good friend Shelby asked me to come and shoot her cross fit competition. I’m a sucker for Ms. Shelby, so I couldn’t say no. Plus, I love everything to do with action photography. I’d never been to a cross fit competition,  nor have I ever shot cross fit, but I went into it with open eyes and a super eager trigger finger.

Cross fit is a very strenuous activity that pulls together a bunch of different biomechanic movements to perform different tasks and exercises. I spent a good amount of time working in the powerlifting gym out of high school, but this stuff is a lot faster and a lot more dynamic. It was really cool to watch all of the different exercises and learn more about the sport.

The day started with deadlifts! As someone who does these often, I know that you can feel really strong when you’re pulling a lot of weight. The ladies and gents in these pictures not only look strong, but super focused and dedicated to the exercise.

Next up was the bench for that coveted 1RM, then muscle ups/pull-ups/knee ups. As a person who loved the bars as a kid, I thoroughly enjoyed watching people on that apparatus.

To finish off the day, everyone did the fan bike for time, a 1.5 mile run with some burpees, and to finish – the rower and jump rope.

I’ve been an athlete my whole life, and I was exhausted at the end of this workout – and I didn’t even participate! If you’re looking for something that’s fun, dynamic, and filled with tough work and grit – cross fit is for you. Warhouse S&C is run really well and seems to be more of a community than an actual gym. Everyone is lifting others up and working hard for each other. That was probably the coolest bit to see!

There you have it! Check out Warhouse S&C to get your cross fit fix! Rob, the owner, is super down to Earth and seems like the type of coach that would push and push until you’re the best version of you that you can be.

Athletes- these are for sale (without the watermark)! Simply click on the photo, document what number it is (by looking at the web-bar), then send me a message through this link to secure your order. All prints are $5.00 individually, 5 for $20.00 and 10 for $40.00. These pictures are also a select few of the 1000+ that I ended up taking over the few hours. If you’re interested in seeing if there’s any more pictures of you/your child, send me a message and I’ll see what I can find for you!

We’re also booking for the summer months. My calendar is filling up so quickly, so don’t wait to book until the last minute! May starts wedding season and we’ll be very busy over here at Boshnasty Photos. I’ve added a contact form at the bottom of this post to make your booking that much easier.

Until the next time, friends! Keep on adventuring…

All About Those Action Shots

If you’ve been following along for a while, you know just how much athletics and sports monopolizes my life. My daytime work is within the athletic department. My nighttimes are filled with basketball games and practices, and more sports and shop talk when we go home. To say that The Modica’s are all about sports is kind of an understatement. Most of this website is filled with action shots of all kinds, so I thought to myself… why not offer up packages and shooting services to all the people that live the same life as me, just without the fancy camera? It seems kind of silly that it took me this long to realize action shots are something that everyone likes.

I remember when I was an athlete and someone would approach us with action shots, I’d be super excited. It’s really cool to see all of your hard work right in front of you. That’s one of the things you miss as the person in the pictures… you’re so busy living the moment that you don’t get to see it happen –  but action shots help that out so so much! I remember thumbing through all of them, in awe of what my body could do and how cool it looked to be the object of someone else’s art. Now, as a photographer, I appreciate the flip-side of that. My life has been about participating in sports and when I stopped, I kind of lost that rush. As a sports photographer, though, it’s like being right back in it, living out the moments…. and capturing them for all the amazing athletes I surround myself with to see.

So – after all the longwinded nonsense, I’m sure you’re wondering what we’re up to. Boshnasty Photos will now offer up freelance sports and action photography services. I’m talking shooting packages that are built around action shots, prints, and fun little extras. I love when my weekends are full of sports and competition – it’s the Bobbie Modica way! I’m super stoked to finally be able to offer a service like this, so here’s hoping everyone else is, too.

I’m still working on crafting a page to house all of the services we offer, so for now, I’m setting up a contact form at the bottom of this page. Simply send us a message with a few details about the event and I’ll shoot you all of our package options to get us started!

I’m pumped to take in as many little league, YMCA, recreational games that I possibly can! There is no limit to the sporting activity I’ll do (other than stuff underwater – I don’t have the equipment for that, sorry!). I have experience with many different sports and would love to try new ones, too. Let’s make some memories and capture a part of your athlete’s life that you guys can treasure and remember together forever!

If you’re curious, I’ve put together some of my favorite action work from the fresh year of 2019!
