UTSA v FIU

Happy Hump Day, everyone! These posts are always my favorite to put out here for everyone. UTSA Men’s Basketball is a part of the Modica family, so getting to be a part of the process is one of the best parts of my gig thus far. It’s even cooler when I’m dumping content that tells everyone that UTSA is winning… and winning big!

The guys returned to The Convo after a 1-1 road trip… with both games going into OT. Despite only winning one of them, the guys figured out just how strong and mentally tough they really were. As I stepped into the gym, I was worried we were in for a game that was much too exciting. We ended up getting that, but it was the best kind of exciting… the guys were making shots, playing well together… and winning!

This was the kind of win that all teams like to have every now and again. There’s nothing like pulling ahead and staying ahead the entire time. The guys haven’t had too many games like that this season, so it was so great to see them rocking the ball through the hoop and not sweating a single thing. This game was so good that the guys that don’t usually touch the court got to have a few minutes of playing time. Those are the best kinds of games!

As you go through these, I hope you notice just how much fun these guys are having. I’m sure I say that every time I present these pictures to you guys, but that’s one of the best parts of going through them for me. No matter what sport I’m shooting, I’m always looking to capture just how much enjoyment someone is feeling in that moment.

Since the guys start their first game of the road trip, check back sometime tomorrow for the gallery of UTSA v FAU! Both of these games were epic and I can’t wait for you to see them.

There you have it! The guys are on the road this week to finish the “regular” season. We’ll know more about their bonus play after Saturday’s game. Until then, check out the ladies on our home turf Thursday & Saturday! They’re always fun to watch.

UTSA WBB v Marshall

Happy Tuesday, everyone! I hope the start of the day is treating you well and you’ve got great plans for the rest of the evening. I’m bringing you some Women’s Basketball today and that’s always an exciting thing for me. These chicks do great things on the court and look really good doing it! Getting to go through these images is always a blast.

This week, the ladies took on Marshall. Like the Men’s team, they too went into overtime to end their game. UTSA took an early lead at the start of the first quarter and kept it for the rest of the first half. They chugged along nicely, draining shots, playing solid defense, and creating opportunities. It was fun to see them playing well and enjoying themselves while doing it.

The second half started out pretty well, too. The pace was a little bit more uptempo and the refs were calling fouls they weren’t in the first half…. against us more often than not, which didn’t help much, either. At the end, the girls fought to stay in the game and force Marshall into extra minutes in overtime.

The momentum moved pretty quickly once the extra five minutes started. The ladies kept in it as much as they could, but Marshall ended up coming back and keeping their foot on the gas to finish up OT. Despite the conclusion, the ladies played hard and fought even harder.

The women are fun to watch, so make sure you catch them during their next home week. Until then, enjoy these epic stills below!

There you have it! The ladies hit the road, but the guys are back in the Convo – so you can still get your UTSA Basketball fix! Make your way to the Convo this Thursday at 7PM to see another epic game.

This is the last week of our contest, so hop on over to this post to enter to win a FREE couple’s session. Everyone that enters will receive a 30% off coupon to use on a future session. We’re also doing the freelance action shot thing, so check out the details of that here.

Oh, lastly, today is the last day to get 19% of senior sessions – which you can do here. We’re slowly creeping towards that time of the year, so don’t miss out!

Until the next time, friends! Keep on adventuring…

UTSA v ODU

WOOOOOOOO!

Sorry guys, but the game I’m about to post is totally worth the hooting and hollering. If you weren’t in the convo for this amazing comeback, you definitely missed something insanely special. This game was basketball magic in the making, my friends. It was easily the best last 3 minutes I’ve ever witnessed in my life… and I’ve seen a lot of sporting events.

For most of the game, the guys were battling. There were important shots that didn’t go in early in the game, there were a few turnovers here and there… like I said, a legit battle. Though they never really pulled ahead, the guys were not about to get beat without a fight. As the minutes clicked by, our starters started to claw at the lead ODU had over them. The crowd got into it the more the guys fought and the more crazy the crowd went… the more the guys fought. It’s crazy to see and experience what a live audience will do to a players confidence and drive.

If you follow UTSA Basketball at all, you know that this comeback is the 2nd largest in NCAA history! That’s in-friggin’-sane! There’s nothing like knowing the guys you shoot and the school you attended are as great as you’ve always thought they were.

The guys are on the road this week, but they’ll return to the convo next Thursday! Something everyone has learned from this passed home game is that you never want to miss a single minute in the convo. To all of those people who left with 3 minutes to go… DON’T! It seems like these guys play even better under pressure, so you can legitimately say that the best is yet to come.

All my Roadrunner fans, this one’s for you!

There you have it! If the last picture in this series shows you anything, it’s that these games are so enjoyable… even the guys think so. Come out to the next home game on Saturday to watch the Ladies and then again next Thursday to watch the guys take on another huge battle!

If you’re interested in your own session, or to book something for later one, click this link here! I can’t wait to meet new people, expand my creativity, and help people’s photography visions come to life.

Lastly, we are now offering action shots in packages, so click this link here to check it out! We’re also still running our contest, so don’t forget to enter. Everyone gets a 30% off coupon for a future session and the chance to win a FREE couple’s session.

Until the next time, friends! Keep on adventuring…

All About Those Action Shots

If you’ve been following along for a while, you know just how much athletics and sports monopolizes my life. My daytime work is within the athletic department. My nighttimes are filled with basketball games and practices, and more sports and shop talk when we go home. To say that The Modica’s are all about sports is kind of an understatement. Most of this website is filled with action shots of all kinds, so I thought to myself… why not offer up packages and shooting services to all the people that live the same life as me, just without the fancy camera? It seems kind of silly that it took me this long to realize action shots are something that everyone likes.

I remember when I was an athlete and someone would approach us with action shots, I’d be super excited. It’s really cool to see all of your hard work right in front of you. That’s one of the things you miss as the person in the pictures… you’re so busy living the moment that you don’t get to see it happen –  but action shots help that out so so much! I remember thumbing through all of them, in awe of what my body could do and how cool it looked to be the object of someone else’s art. Now, as a photographer, I appreciate the flip-side of that. My life has been about participating in sports and when I stopped, I kind of lost that rush. As a sports photographer, though, it’s like being right back in it, living out the moments…. and capturing them for all the amazing athletes I surround myself with to see.

So – after all the longwinded nonsense, I’m sure you’re wondering what we’re up to. Boshnasty Photos will now offer up freelance sports and action photography services. I’m talking shooting packages that are built around action shots, prints, and fun little extras. I love when my weekends are full of sports and competition – it’s the Bobbie Modica way! I’m super stoked to finally be able to offer a service like this, so here’s hoping everyone else is, too.

I’m still working on crafting a page to house all of the services we offer, so for now, I’m setting up a contact form at the bottom of this page. Simply send us a message with a few details about the event and I’ll shoot you all of our package options to get us started!

I’m pumped to take in as many little league, YMCA, recreational games that I possibly can! There is no limit to the sporting activity I’ll do (other than stuff underwater – I don’t have the equipment for that, sorry!). I have experience with many different sports and would love to try new ones, too. Let’s make some memories and capture a part of your athlete’s life that you guys can treasure and remember together forever!

If you’re curious, I’ve put together some of my favorite action work from the fresh year of 2019!

UTSA WBB v UAB

Hi there, everyone! I hope everyone had a thoughtful and lucrative MLK day. Today has been a day packed full of time spent with my father, editing, and lots of contemplation. We’re currently watching Haunting of Hill House and that makes your brain go in all sorts of different directions! But, one of the best things about having a day off is being able to absorb myself in the art that I like to produce.

You guys see a lot of the UTSA Men’s Basketball team on here, but not so much with the women. However, that’s going to change! The ladies are going to be making more appearances throughout the next couple of months because their games are just as fun and bring a whole new type of action shot to the table. If you’re a sports fan, you know that the men and women’s game is never quite the same. As an athlete who has played on both sides of the coin, I totally know this. I loved playing basketball growing up and the more I played with my guy friends, the more I appreciated playing with my girls on the court when it came to actual games. There’s a uniqueness to women’s sports that is so cool.

I showed up a little late to this game, so the ladies were already underway, but I came to finish out the first half, and man I’m glad I did. It’s always interesting to come in on something halfway through, and this wasn’t any different. I hadn’t a clue how the girls were trailing or what the plays were like before I stepped onto the sideline… so I got to shoot with the slightest bit of mystery and intrigue. As someone who pays attention from the second the athlete steps on the court to the second their done… it was an overall interesting experience.

The ladies didn’t bring this one home, but it was well fought and definitely intense. These ladies are a blast to watch and even with their limited amount of playable players on the bench, they still bring the fire and fight. They’re going on the road this week, but check the ladies out next week, Thursday 7PM!

Peep the battle below.
