Happy Sunday, everyone! I meant to get this blog out yesterday, but I’ve been flattened by the flu for the passed few days. I’m still not 100%, but things are good enough to get behind the computer and pump out some of my favorite pictures. I’ve been trying to savor these last few galleries, because we’re quickly coming to the end of the season – where basketball action photography will dwindle down again. The best thing is, sports go all year round, so you’ll see more UTSA goodness here soon!

Last week, UTSA took on the UAB in their second “bonus” play game. Not only was this game important because of that, but it also happened to be senior night. For the first time, I watched guys I watched play as Freshman walk across the court. I don’t have the same relationship with the guys that Josh does, but I’ve been photographing and getting to know these dudes for a hot minute – so I got a little chocked up. Luckily, I had my camera to hid behind most of the time.

Mitar, Toby, Gio, and Nick – y’all are the bomb and it has been an honor taking your pictures and getting to know you guys!

Anyway – this game was a great one! The best way to honor the seniors was to play hard and go down fighting, which is exactly what we did. The entire game was a battle, but the guys were in it to win it – and that totally showed. Standing on the sidelines watching is one of the coolest things, and it’s even better when we’re fighting hard and the game is as intense as this one.

In the end, the guys pulled it out. They’ve been coming together all season to perform to the best of their ability – so here’s hoping they continue that into next week to capitalize on the conference tournament seat they’re currently sitting in.

To hold you over until next week’s game play, check out the action against UAB below!

There you have it! We’re headed to Frisco, Texas to start Conference USA tournament game play. UTSA secured the #4 spot and a by into the second round of play. I’ll be there to document it all, so make sure you’re following @boshnastyphotos on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook!

Today is the last day to grab 25% off session prices, so don’t miss out! I’ve attached a contact form to the bottom of this post to make booking with us easier.

Since basketball season is coming to an end, I’ve got a bit more time for freelance action photos, too. Use the attached form below to secure a spot and grab some cool action pictures of your athlete!

Until the next time, friends! Keep on adventuring…

Warhouse Strength & Conditioning

Hi, everyone! I hope you’re stoked for the weekend, because we’re one day away. I’m stoked for this weekend, merely because the next week is Spring Break! There’s not a singular thing wrong with having a few extra days of break. I’m heading to Frisco with the UTSA Men’s Basketball team, so I’m even more excited because of it.

Last weekend, my good friend Shelby asked me to come and shoot her cross fit competition. I’m a sucker for Ms. Shelby, so I couldn’t say no. Plus, I love everything to do with action photography. I’d never been to a cross fit competition,  nor have I ever shot cross fit, but I went into it with open eyes and a super eager trigger finger.

Cross fit is a very strenuous activity that pulls together a bunch of different biomechanic movements to perform different tasks and exercises. I spent a good amount of time working in the powerlifting gym out of high school, but this stuff is a lot faster and a lot more dynamic. It was really cool to watch all of the different exercises and learn more about the sport.

The day started with deadlifts! As someone who does these often, I know that you can feel really strong when you’re pulling a lot of weight. The ladies and gents in these pictures not only look strong, but super focused and dedicated to the exercise.

Next up was the bench for that coveted 1RM, then muscle ups/pull-ups/knee ups. As a person who loved the bars as a kid, I thoroughly enjoyed watching people on that apparatus.

To finish off the day, everyone did the fan bike for time, a 1.5 mile run with some burpees, and to finish – the rower and jump rope.

I’ve been an athlete my whole life, and I was exhausted at the end of this workout – and I didn’t even participate! If you’re looking for something that’s fun, dynamic, and filled with tough work and grit – cross fit is for you. Warhouse S&C is run really well and seems to be more of a community than an actual gym. Everyone is lifting others up and working hard for each other. That was probably the coolest bit to see!

There you have it! Check out Warhouse S&C to get your cross fit fix! Rob, the owner, is super down to Earth and seems like the type of coach that would push and push until you’re the best version of you that you can be.

UTSA v ODU – Take 2!

Happy Tuesday, everyone! I hope you’re past your Monday blues and onto better things for the week. The end of basketball season is slowly creeping its way towards us, and in the Modica house – it’s kind of bittersweet. We’re both so wrapped up in the team that it’s hard to remember what it’s like to have a weekend that isn’t filled with basketball or Josh on the road. My camera gets a great workout this time of the year, and I wouldn’t change that for anything. I will say, though – I’m looking forward to having a free Saturday!

This game against ODU marked UTSA’s entrance into the C-USA bonus play. They got a little bit of time off to regroup and put themselves back together in a better and more efficient version of themselves. If you were at the last ODU game, you know how much of a fight this game was going to be. As the guys walked onto the court to start the game, you could totally tell they were thinking the same thing – this game is a big one.

For most of the game, both teams were neck and neck. UTSA’s fans have come to town this season and make the convo lively – every single game, so the energy wasn’t missing for a single second. When Gio, Keaton, or Jhivvan make a shot, the band goes wild! They have a chant for each of the guys, and it’s one of the best parts of being at those games. I’m a firm believer that a great crowd gives the home team an extra bit of boost when they need it.

By the end, the guys were right there with the ODU athletes. At the last buzzer, the guys fell short by one point. Regardless, the game was epic and chaotic and amazing all at once. The guys have so much support that they’re proud to be putting their all out on the convo floor. As a photographer, that’s one of the coolest things to catch.

As you go through these, take in the intensity and grit all these guys are portraying. They’re in it to win it and it’s totally apparent to anyone paying any sort of attention. The end of the season prize is near and the dogs are out!

Check out the well fought battle below:

There you have it! The guys take off on the road to finish up their last two games of bonus play. They’ll be back in Texas next week, competing in the C-USA tournament. Stay tuned for more!

Dartmouth Baseball

Hey everyone! I’m sure you’re all confused as to why you’re seeing Dartmouth up there, but don’t panic… I’m still as committed to my Roadrunners as I possibly could be. It is my school and they will always be my team. I just so happened to have gotten the opportunity to shoot UTSA’s opponent during a double header last weekend.

When I stepped onto Roadrunner Field, I felt a little bad that I was approaching this place with intentions to shoot the other team. As I stood behind the camera and got to know the guys that I would be shooting, I got to see UTSA in a totally different light. I got to see them from an opponents perspective, and that’s a really cool way to watch your home team. Things just seemed so much more epic when I was watching it from the other side of the camera.

Being a freelance photographer, I get to accept contracts from all over. When I got this opportunity, I couldn’t turn it down. Now, people in the Northeast will know who Bobbie Modica is and what Boshnasty Photos is all about. There’s not a singular thing wrong with that! Also, I got to throw a little green into the orange and blue mix… which doesn’t hurt too much, either.

At the end of the day, my Runners ended up winning and Dartmouth headed into Sunday with high hopes. Not only did I get these great pictures, but I also got to be up close and personal at one of my favorite sporting events… ever! I hope this isn’t the last time you’ll see baseball on this page. Here’s hoping this is the start of lots and lots of baseball photographs, too!

Parents, athletes- these are for sale! Simply click on the photo, document what number it is, then send me a message through this link to secure your order. All prints are $5.00 individually, 5 for $20.00 and 10 for $40.00. These pictures are also a select few of the 1000+ that I ended up taking over the two games. If you’re interested in seeing if there’s any more pictures of you/your child, send me a message and I’ll see what I can find for you!

Until then, enjoy Dartmouth Baseball!

There you have it! Dartmouth was really cool to shoot and it was an awesome experience dealing with a contract that didn’t come from UTSA. I’m stoked that I’m continuously able to spread my wings and get as much experience as possible.

We’re currently giving everyone 25% off for any session type until March 10th, so head over to this link here to book your session. My summer is very quickly filling up, and I want to be able to experience all the goodness you guys bring my way. So, don’t hesitate to send us a message and book your session. I can’t wait to meet everyone!

I’m also still taking freelance action photography gigs! My sports are forever evolving, so let’s catch your athlete in action! Head over to this page here to book an action photography session today.

Until the next time, friends! Keep on adventuring…

Happy Hump Day, everyone! These posts are always my favorite to put out here for everyone. UTSA Men’s Basketball is a part of the Modica family, so getting to be a part of the process is one of the best parts of my gig thus far. It’s even cooler when I’m dumping content that tells everyone that UTSA is winning… and winning big!

The guys returned to The Convo after a 1-1 road trip… with both games going into OT. Despite only winning one of them, the guys figured out just how strong and mentally tough they really were. As I stepped into the gym, I was worried we were in for a game that was much too exciting. We ended up getting that, but it was the best kind of exciting… the guys were making shots, playing well together… and winning!

This was the kind of win that all teams like to have every now and again. There’s nothing like pulling ahead and staying ahead the entire time. The guys haven’t had too many games like that this season, so it was so great to see them rocking the ball through the hoop and not sweating a single thing. This game was so good that the guys that don’t usually touch the court got to have a few minutes of playing time. Those are the best kinds of games!

As you go through these, I hope you notice just how much fun these guys are having. I’m sure I say that every time I present these pictures to you guys, but that’s one of the best parts of going through them for me. No matter what sport I’m shooting, I’m always looking to capture just how much enjoyment someone is feeling in that moment.

Since the guys start their first game of the road trip, check back sometime tomorrow for the gallery of UTSA v FAU! Both of these games were epic and I can’t wait for you to see them.
