UTSA Women’s Golf – Trophy Things!

Happy Wednesday, everyone! Here’s hoping the week has been great so far, and the end of it is looking up, too. Josh and I are heading out of Texas and into Missouri country, so we’re excited to finish up our work week! It’s always a blast heading back to Josh’s hometown. There’s so much to do and Missouri is so insanely gorgeous!

Today’s blog post centers around UTSA Women’s Golf team. Not only are these ladies insane scholars and athletes, but they’re back-to-back C-USA tournament champions! It’s so awesome to see my fellow ladies out there making stuff happen. It’s even nicer to see some of the girls I see pretty regularly get what they’ve worked so hard for!

I was approached last week to take part in their trophy pictures and jumped on the chance. It’s one thing to take part in family stuff, but it’s an even cooler thing to get to take part in family’s success. I’m always interested in celebrating what the orange & blue can do! It didn’t hurt that the trophy that has our school’s name on it is pretty dang nice.

All and all, these pictures show not only the success of a few golfers, but the true team that they are. Walking to our location, they stayed in a line in perfect sync. When we got there, they listened, contributed ideas, and did exactly what they needed – when they needed to do it. You don’t think much about golf being a team game, but these girls show you something different! They are there for their team, their school, and the game they love – and it shows!

Enjoy their spoils below –

UTSA – CUSA Tournament

Happy Thursday, everyone! Friday is just a few hours away – and then it’s the weekend! I’m so very stoked for the weekends these days. My sweet Joshy is home until the start of next basketball season, we’re getting to the busy season of picture taking, and – it’s the most gorgeous time of the year! We get to explore all the beautiful places that San Antonio/New Braunfels/Boerne/Austin have to offer!

These pictures took me a little longer than I would have liked for a couple reasons. To begin with, I wasn’t really ready for the season to be over. I love standing on the sidelines catching all the action as close as I possibly can get it. I love being able to get to know the guys both on and off the court, and I love the family aspect that the team creates. None of those things go away – they’re just less intense throughout the off-season. The other reason why I didn’t want to get through these pictures was because the game didn’t go nearly as we planned and it hurt just the littlest bit to get to the end and have the same result for the second time!

Regardless of all of that, I ended up getting through the images and am so stoked about it! Though they didn’t get the result they wanted, the guys played hard and looked good on film doing it. There was so much intensity throughout the first half – the guys were on fire. It was like they hadn’t played in forever and were jonesing for the chance. When they stepped on the court on the second half, though – the energy just wasn’t the same. Despite falling behind and staying that way, the basketball was sound and the guys played until the last second came and went.

As you look through these pictures, take into account how gorgeous the court lighting is! I love the rich white light and it made the pictures look so crisp and so clean. Also make sure you take into account how intense these guys seem to look.

Without further ado – UTSA’s Conference USA tournament appearance!

There you have it! Though the UTSA Basketball season is over, this isn’t the last you’ll see of UTSA Athletics. It’s baseball/softball season and I’m so very excited to start posting those beauties here, too!

UTSA v UAB

Happy Sunday, everyone! I meant to get this blog out yesterday, but I’ve been flattened by the flu for the passed few days. I’m still not 100%, but things are good enough to get behind the computer and pump out some of my favorite pictures. I’ve been trying to savor these last few galleries, because we’re quickly coming to the end of the season – where basketball action photography will dwindle down again. The best thing is, sports go all year round, so you’ll see more UTSA goodness here soon!

Last week, UTSA took on the UAB in their second “bonus” play game. Not only was this game important because of that, but it also happened to be senior night. For the first time, I watched guys I watched play as Freshman walk across the court. I don’t have the same relationship with the guys that Josh does, but I’ve been photographing and getting to know these dudes for a hot minute – so I got a little chocked up. Luckily, I had my camera to hid behind most of the time.

Mitar, Toby, Gio, and Nick – y’all are the bomb and it has been an honor taking your pictures and getting to know you guys!

Anyway – this game was a great one! The best way to honor the seniors was to play hard and go down fighting, which is exactly what we did. The entire game was a battle, but the guys were in it to win it – and that totally showed. Standing on the sidelines watching is one of the coolest things, and it’s even better when we’re fighting hard and the game is as intense as this one.

In the end, the guys pulled it out. They’ve been coming together all season to perform to the best of their ability – so here’s hoping they continue that into next week to capitalize on the conference tournament seat they’re currently sitting in.

To hold you over until next week’s game play, check out the action against UAB below!

There you have it! We’re headed to Frisco, Texas to start Conference USA tournament game play. UTSA secured the #4 spot and a by into the second round of play. I’ll be there to document it all, so make sure you’re following @boshnastyphotos on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook!

Today is the last day to grab 25% off session prices, so don’t miss out! I’ve attached a contact form to the bottom of this post to make booking with us easier.

UTSA v ODU – Take 2!

Happy Tuesday, everyone! I hope you’re past your Monday blues and onto better things for the week. The end of basketball season is slowly creeping its way towards us, and in the Modica house – it’s kind of bittersweet. We’re both so wrapped up in the team that it’s hard to remember what it’s like to have a weekend that isn’t filled with basketball or Josh on the road. My camera gets a great workout this time of the year, and I wouldn’t change that for anything. I will say, though – I’m looking forward to having a free Saturday!

This game against ODU marked UTSA’s entrance into the C-USA bonus play. They got a little bit of time off to regroup and put themselves back together in a better and more efficient version of themselves. If you were at the last ODU game, you know how much of a fight this game was going to be. As the guys walked onto the court to start the game, you could totally tell they were thinking the same thing – this game is a big one.

For most of the game, both teams were neck and neck. UTSA’s fans have come to town this season and make the convo lively – every single game, so the energy wasn’t missing for a single second. When Gio, Keaton, or Jhivvan make a shot, the band goes wild! They have a chant for each of the guys, and it’s one of the best parts of being at those games. I’m a firm believer that a great crowd gives the home team an extra bit of boost when they need it.

By the end, the guys were right there with the ODU athletes. At the last buzzer, the guys fell short by one point. Regardless, the game was epic and chaotic and amazing all at once. The guys have so much support that they’re proud to be putting their all out on the convo floor. As a photographer, that’s one of the coolest things to catch.

As you go through these, take in the intensity and grit all these guys are portraying. They’re in it to win it and it’s totally apparent to anyone paying any sort of attention. The end of the season prize is near and the dogs are out!

Check out the well fought battle below:

There you have it! The guys take off on the road to finish up their last two games of bonus play. They’ll be back in Texas next week, competing in the C-USA tournament. Stay tuned for more!

UTSA v FAU

Happy Saturday, Friends! It’s a chilly, but gorgeous day out there –  I hope you guys are enjoying it as much as I am. I thought it was only appropriate that I put these pictures up today. UTSA Men’s Basketball is playing their last scheduled conference game before they head into bonus play – so it’s a big one! They’re coming off a road game loss, so I’m hoping these awesome stills of these guys winning will be good JUJU!

The game against FAU was a great one. The guys were untouchable last week and this game totally showed that. From the very beginning, UTSA was up. The guys were hitting shots, passing well, and playing great defense. It’s cool to see them playing well on both sides of the ball. There’s nothing like a Jhivvan Jackson shooting fest, but there’s a lot to be said about a good spread of game play, too.

As the game went on and the guys continued to climb there way towards a victory, the crowd got really into it, too. There’s nothing like going to a game where the crowd is as into it as the guys that are on the court. When the guys made shots, they played it up with the crowd. When the ref made a bad call… the entire student/band section was heckling the heck out of them. By the end of the game, everyone was on their feet, enjoying the crap out of being there.

As you go through these images, you’ll be able to see all of that goodness and more. There are stills of the guys shooting, passing, but more importantly – celebrating. Catching the duo smacking hands, or Toby reacting to a play are some of my favorite shots to grab. I can’t wait to watch tonight’s game, but I’m even more interested in their last two home games –  I can’t wait to shoot these guys in action again.

Until then, enjoy the stills of their awesome win over FAU!
